Naxos Travel Guide: Best Beaches, Villages & 3-Day Itinerary

NAXOS travel guide

Why Visit NAXOS, Greece

Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades and one of the most varied — a mix of long sandy beaches, mountain villages, ancient ruins and incredible local food. Its fertile interior makes it feel noticeably greener than many neighboring islands, while its traditional villages offer plenty to explore beyond the coast.

It's perfect for travelers who want the classic Greek island experience with a little more adventure, culture and space to wander.

  • May, June & September: Our favorite months — warm, beautiful and less crowded.

  • July & August: Peak season with warm seas and a livelier atmosphere.

  • Tip: Rent a car for at least a day or two to explore the mountain villages and more remote beaches.

Best Villages on Naxos

  • Halki: Neoclassical architecture, olive groves, small shops and traditional kitron liqueur.

  • Filoti: A lively mountain village beneath Mount Zas, perfect for lunch in the shaded square.

  • Apeiranthos: The island's beautiful “Marble Village,” with stone lanes and mountain views.

  • Apollonas: A quiet fishing village on the northern coast worth combining with the nearby ancient Kouros.

Our tip: Spend a day driving Halki → Filoti → Apeiranthos for one of our favorite sides of Naxos.
